Jamestown And Williamsburg...

After classes on Friday, Will, Lenka and I got our things together for a weekend in Williamsburg. At 6:00pm, Andrew, our driver, set off for the four hour trip - after the bus rides last week, four hours feels like a short hop. We arrived at the hotel dead on 10:00pm and then settled in. We walked
around the immediate area to scout out any interesting placed in for the evening, but aside from outlets and restaurants, the main area, as we discovered, was downtown.

Today we had an early start, setting off for Jametown. Aside from seeing the Union Jack flying proudly, the place is really interesting because the national park as you see it today has only really existed in my lifetime and they know there is a lot more to find in the future. After we'd had a guided tour, we stopped off briefly at the glasshouse and then continued on the downtown colonial Williamsburg.

Throughout the day we had lunch in a candlelight tavern with flaggerns of beer, watched renactments, browsed the shops and open buildings, and finished up with a ghost tour after dinner. All in all, it was a great day and the actors throughout the town do a superb job of never breaking character as they interact, whether tourists are nearby or not. This evening, tired from a lot of warm, fresh air and walking around, we relaxed at the hotel.
